The government has cut grants meant to encourage people to buy electric vehicles. The Department for Transport is cutting the grant by £500, now offering a £2,500 contribution towards an electric vehicle purchase. The grant will also be restricted to cars under £35,000.
The government argue that this move will mean the funding can last for longer, and be available to more drivers. The number of electric vehicles priced under £35,000 has increased by nearly 50% since 2019, and nearly half of electric cars currently on sale will still be eligible for the grant.
